Thanks to Frank's dedication and some pivotal meetings with Rockville Centre Mayor Francis X. Murray and RVC Recreation Center Superintendent Karen Polito, pickleball has flourished in Rockville Centre. The support received from local authorities has turned Frank's vision into a thriving reality.
The demand for pickleball exceeded Frank's wildest expectations. The leagues filled up rapidly, leaving everyone exhilarated. Exciting news! Our highly anticipated 2023-2024 20-Week Pickleball Leagues are now open for registration. Get ready to embark on an incredible pickleball journey that spans from September 4th to next year. Mark your calendars and prepare for 20 weeks of intense competition and exhilarating matches!
We offer leagues catered to players of all skill levels. Whether you're a beginner, advanced beginner, or intermediate player, we have the perfect league for you. Choose your preferred league day from Sundays through Thursdays and get ready to showcase your skills on the court.
HISTORY OF PICKLEBALL
Let's dive into the fascinating history of pickleball. Invented back in 1965, this dynamic sport combines elements from tennis, badminton, and racquetball. Its debut took place at the iconic John A. Anderson Recreation Center, where two portable courts were set up upstairs and one downstairs, creating the perfect playing environment.
Pickleball is played on a court similar in size to badminton (20×44 feet), using solid paddles made of wood or composite material. The ball used is a polymer ball, resembling a wiffle ball. Notably, the net is set at a slightly lower height compared to tennis, with 42 inches at the ends and 36 inches in the middle. Games are played to 11 points, with a requirement of a 2-point winning margin.
